Who We Are

Southland Christian Academy is a ministry of Desert Reign Assembly of God in Downey CA. Formerly Cerritos Christian School, we have been established for over thirty-five years. CCS’ name was changed to Southland Christian Academy in 2002 when we purchased the Woodruff Christian School campus. Southland Christian Academy (SCA) operates a year-round program consisting of a typical ten-month school year, a year-around daycare and preschool, and a summer day camp. SCA is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. (Place web link and logo here) Southland Christian Academy and Southland Christian Preschool are conveniently located on separate ends of the same campus in Bellflower CA. A joint campus provides the opportunity to make only one stop when dropping off and picking up students ages 2 years through 8th grade!

Our Principal

Mrs. Deborah Metcalf is a graduate of International Bible College San Antonio Texas. She began teaching Kindergarten in the mid eighties. She taught various elementary grades in one of the most prestigious schools in the area for the next ten years. Ms. Deborah accepted an administrative position for three more years in that same school. In 1999 Ms. Deborah was asked to become the principal of Cerritos Christian School and preschool a ministry of Desert Reign Assembly of God in Cerritos. In 2002 Desert Reign began its relocation to Downey and purchased the present campus as the new home for its schools. Formerly known as Woodruff Christian School (Bellflower) and Cerritos Christian School (Cerritos) the new name became Southland Christian Academy. Ms. Deborah and her husband Pastor Don Metcalf have been pastors of Desert Reign for nearly thirty years.
